The driving principle of tracked excavators

Mar 09, 2024

Hydraulic drive. The hydraulic drive system is one of the commonly used driving methods for tracked excavators. Its principle is to convert hydraulic oil pressure into mechanical energy through an oil pump, and transmit hydraulic energy to the hydraulic motor or cylinder body, thereby driving the forward, steering, lifting, and lowering actions of the tracks. The hydraulic system mainly consists of oil pumps, control valves, hydraulic motors or cylinder bodies, etc.

Mechanical drive. The main way of mechanically driving the track is to transfer the energy output from the engine or electric motor to the planetary reducer, which then transmits it to the track.

In addition, tracked excavators can also use a central swivel joint to achieve free rotation of the excavator within a 360 degree range. In general, the driving principles of tracked excavators are diverse, and regardless of the method used, the purpose is to enable the excavator to travel and turn smoothly, thereby better completing the work.
