Visual inspection: Before starting the locomotive, a visual inspection should be conducted. Thoroughly inspect the surrounding environment and bottom of the locomotive in the following order:
1. Is there any oil, fuel, or coolant leakage.
2. Are there any loose bolts and nuts.
3. Are there any broken wires, short circuits, or loose battery connections in the electrical circuit.
4. Is there any oil stains.
5. Is there any accumulation of civilian property.
